107. You really did not understand at all what was going on and you are taking that WAY out of context. P.S. That's okay..I think you're a douchebag.

153. I was thinking "Brian is going to kill himself now, he just fucked a cougar".

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
107: Even within context it's still utterly batshit, much like the rest of Goodkind's writing from that point onward. Although one could argue that the batshittery was already showing in book one, with the long S&M torture scene and the bit where the 'hero' kicked a young girl in the face.

[identity profile] van.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
How about the scene in book one where the hero decided to save the girl instead of saving the world? How anyone has any respect for him after that is beyond me.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
How about the scene where Richard and his army kill a bunch of pacificists?

[identity profile] van.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Richard could have made a really interesting villain, but as the hero he was just awful.

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
He could've been a hero who was morally grey or conflicted by the horrible things he had to do to beat the bad guy, but alas, it was not to be.

But at least we'll always have the Evil Chicken Who Is Not A Chicken.

[identity profile] inner-ch1ld.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
As opposed to the villian who would rape, dismember, rape with a broomstick an under age girl.....

[identity profile] dracothelizard.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
How about the villain who ripped out a guy's spine by using his hands?

No, wait, that wasn't the villain, that was the hero. It's so easy to get them mixed up.

[identity profile] vaultedthewall.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You can tell he's a 'good guy' because he's one of the only males who hasn't raped anyone.

I think. I mean, I threw the book against the wall at book three and said "NO MORE." That could have changed.

[identity profile] vaultedthewall.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
107. Alright, if that's taken way out of context and we don't understand the scene, could you please explain it?

[identity profile] inner-ch1ld.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
In that world, siding with the wrong side means being raped again and again and again, being dismembered as you are raped by the leader of the Order.
The 'heroine's' threat to send her back down into the pit with those men was better than being a member of the Order.
I can only guess the OP agrees with the mind set of Jagang, most likely has strong religious beliefs to not understand where the charaters are coming from.

[identity profile] vaultedthewall.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man! That would sound so much worse, too. If rape wasn't the fucking theme of every goddamn fucking book.

[identity profile] inner-ch1ld.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
The whole thing is pretty fucked up and just so you feel better the "heroine" has her fair share of shit happen.

I don't agree with her logic during those particular scenes, but don't worry the 'sister' (whom btw, did not have a sisterly relationship with her...they merely shared the same father) coems back to power and joins the Order, she is later beheaded and the Order scouts play soccor with her severed head.

[identity profile] inner-ch1ld.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
Also, Goodkind's use of rape was meant to instill hatred for the Order, pretty fucked up, huh? Well as far as I know everyone hates them....>.>

[identity profile] vaultedthewall.livejournal.com 2008-11-08 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'd believe that were it not for the fact that when I finally gave up on the books (book three) I think the only female character that hadn't been raped or at least threatened with rape was.... the dragon.

Because threatening it once to try and keep a person from going to a place where it'll happen multiple times? Oh yeah that makes everything aaaaaall better.

And really, even without that the argument isn't convincing me. It just proves the point that the books are badly written and severely fucked up. The main characters are all assholes and only 'goodguys' by virtue of the fact that the 'badguys' rape the dog. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Archive/RapeTheDog) Seriously, is there a male antagonist in that series who hasn't committed, thought about, or attempted rape and isn't a freaking eunich?

Unlike the idea Mr. Goodkind is laboring under though, that doesn't make the protagonists heroes. That just makes them the lesser of two evils and still fucked up and still bad people. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MoralDissonance)
