138. I can't believe I'm saying this, and maybe it's the booze talking (gah, I'm such a friggen lightweight), but...in that case, I think fandom is well shut of you.
I feel a little upset, saying that, because I'm the first person to preach love and acceptance of all fan-types in this fandom. I think it's important that the old-fen not mock and despise the new-fen, that the new-fen make the effort to discover their roots, that the people who violently oppose the idea of the Doctor having any sort of sex drive at all not scorn the die-hard Rose/Doctor shippers, who are made genuinely happy by their ship, that the R/D shippers acknowledge that the Doctor's had a long life with many, many companions, etc etc.

But one of the core things about Doctor Who is that The Doctor Will Change. It happens. And if for some sad reason you can't accept that and decide to pitch a hissy-fit and "quit" fandom because the Doctor won't be the same pretty-boy actor he's been for the past thre (out of forty, mind!) years...

Then yes. You never really liked this show to begin with. And that's a shame.

This show is about so, so much more than which actor happens to be playing the Doctor at the time. Each one brings something special to the table, and if you're giving up before even seeing what the new one brings...well, that's a crying shame. We've all dealt with watching our Doctors regenerate. Deal.

138: Everything you said. Doctor Who =/= David Tennant, and the show is greater than whatever actor happens to be playing the Doctor (Ten on the show alone - that's why we call him Ten, fanpeoples, because Chris Eccleston wasn't the only one who came before Tennant - and more when you include the deutero-canonical materials).

You said this far nicer than I ever could have. I'm happy to see the Tennant fans leaving. I never liked his Doctor to begin with, and perhaps I'll enjoy fandom again once he's left.

You said that a lot more nicely than I would have - almost did. For God's sake, I have to say that this is one of the reasons why fans of Classic Who have a problem with [some] New fans. They don't bother to investigate the roots of the show and act like they are the first people to ever fall in love with it. I've been going through regenerations since 4, and yes, it sucks, and yes, it's disconcerting and you wonder if it'll be the same, but that's the SHOW and if you're (the OP) only watching it for DT, you are, sorry, one of those ignorant fake fans that I cannot stand.

I'm glad you're done. GTFO my fandom, then. We don't need people who don't give a shit about the SHOW.

Yes, this. Personally, with the looming concern that Tennant would leave, my friends and I have been a little worried that some of our enjoyment of the show would fade. I mean, I liked the Ninth Doctor fine, but I didn't REALLY get into this show until Tennant was on it, and I'd really like to keep loving this show to bits with Eleven.

Can't imagine throwing a fit the moment it's announced DT's leaving and storming from the fandom.
