this depends on whether you thing "republican economic system" means "cutting rich taxes is good for regular white folks probably" or "ruthless delivery of wealth to the very top of the system". and the fact of the matter is that in PRACTICE the "republican economic system" has meant the latter for decades and decades, but Reagan managed to convince a lot of idiots that "trickle down economics" was TOTALLY the former. while doing the latter.

Trump is basically the best there has ever been at fulfilling the actual aims of the republican party. Pure grift.

some rank and file voters who couldn't see through Reagan manage to see through Trump, that's all.

One of the saddest things is that even dyed-in-the-wool Republicans saw through Reaganomics back in the days before it became illegal for Republicans to criticize St. Ronald. Bush the Elder called it voodoo economics, and a rebel he was not. They weren't even suckered by a good con. They just decided collectively to pretend the Emperor wasn't bareass naked.
