I've re-read books but I'm talking about a 15-20 year gap between reads. Like I read Watership Down when I was 8 and didn't revisit it until my late 20s. I re-read Wuthering Heights in my early 20s after reading it about a decade before. I would say that I *can* re-read and enjoy some books but I've never been the sort of person who reads something on an annual basis like a couple of my friends do!

I'm the opposite, OP. I tend to reread things more often than I try new books, because I struggle to find new books that I enjoy or are as comforting as old favorites. Old favorites are like old friends, and occasionally I find something new when I reread because I'm older, my life experience has changed, etc.

I love rewatching or rereading things. Not because I don't remember what happened, but because I enjoyed what did.

this also happens to me

Aw, that's too bad. Certain books that I like i reread every year. Cover to cover. I just love to fall into the world, the words, the prose.....

What happens when you try?

I'm the opposite. I reread books all the time, but I cannot rewatch a movie/show unless it's been long enough that I forgot pretty much everything about it (which means... at least a decade, give or take). I just can't stay focused when I already know what's going to happen and my mind drifts away within a few minutes. Doesn't happen with reading, for whatever reason.

... isn't that pretty normal? I read and watch a lot of things, but I rarely get the urge to reread or rewatch them. If I've already consumed it and enjoyed it, I'm generally not interested in consuming it again because I would rather spend my time on something new instead. Unless it's one of the rare pieces of media that I really, really adore, I don't get any more enjoyment out of reading/watching it for the second time than I did for the first, so I don't really see the point in spending my time on something I have already read/watched and enjoyed when instead I could be checking out something new instead.

I don't really reread/watch/whatever, just not my cup of tea but I just remembered two things I was told as a teen. One was that a book not worth reading twice is not worth reading once either. I'm guessing that's a quote from somewhere or by someone famous but idk. And even though I don't reread things that always stuck with me because there is something to the idea.

The other was that every woman should read Anna Karenina 3 times in her life, once as a teenager, once in her late twenties/early thirties and once after 50. That was said by my lit teacher in high school when we were reading it and at the time we all rolled our eyes but now I'm in that second age group and I'm sure if I read it again I'd see pretty much everything differently than I did then.

I'm the same, I think its a combination of remembering what happened in the story and there be so many other books to read why would I reread a book when I can read a whole new story?

That said, I reread fanfic all the time. I don't know why that is different!
