I have the same feeling about a popular character with a dozen ships to him name in a fandom I like. The media essentially plays him as being mentally handicapped, sometimes it seems like me and my friends are the only ones who recognize that. All the while the show credits him for a number of the main characters breakthroughs. Which would be fine if the flashbacks we see had any reason for being inspirational to the character, but as it is, they're just callbacks to scene we've seen to be essentially meaningless. I can't stand it.
