Are you still talking about fictional characters, or are you also talking about RL? I mean, not every straight person IRL(or fictional)has been in a same sex relationship at some point =/ I don't mean to sound rude or anything, but your wording kinda made me go "Huh?".

I'm not saying that every straight person has had a same-sex relationship, no. I'm also not saying that straight people (or those low enough on the Kinsey scale that they consider themselves straight, whichever) don't exist.

What I'm saying is that if you see a fictional character only in relationships with the opposite sex, the possibility exists that they could be bisexual. And although statistics say every character won't be, specific fanfics usually aren't speaking for every character at once--just one or two. In short, the possibility is always there.

And yeah, this happens in real life too--my best friend in high school, who had about five relationships with guys when we went to school together, is now engaged to a woman.

Ok, I was just slightly confused about your wording, but I understand your point better now. I didn't mean to come off as ignorant or offensive - I know that there are people IRL who date or are in relationships with members of the same sex, even if they're "supposedly" straight. And, yes, I know bisexuals exist. Sexuality is a tricky thing -__-;

I Hope I didn't make you angry - I try to word as careful as I can, I'd hate to be the one to start an angry argument :(

This. There was this HUGE ARGUMENT over in RP Secrets the other day, too, about whether or not a male character who is only shown to be interested in women is a "canon heterosexual." Some great arguments about how extrapolating anything at all from canon information given makes it immediately fanon (both that character being bisexual and that character being entirely heterosexual fall into that category!), but the anon really didn't get it.

Unless there's emphasis in the plot specifically put on whether a character is straight or gay, the character doesn't have a canon sexuality. They just have a canon interest in a certain gender or other. Even a womanizer or male who flirts a lot with females could conceivably be predominately interested in females but be able to be attracted to a few males -- it would just be rarer for them.

(RP journal so very much related; I can't help but picture this character truly having a strong leaning towards females, as he is shown to be a total flirt with pretty much every female in canon, but only really close enough emotionally -- maybe even only able to be close enough, emotionally -- to his male best friend for any actual relationship to work. Of course, as his best friend is also an alien frog, I try not to talk about this much. :|)
