And I believe dragging a horse to water doesn't make it thirsty. :| I guess that's the crux of our problem: you're for negative punishment, and I'm more optimistic about positive reinforcement when it came to helping a few people in my life see that... I'm not any less human than they are for not going with the flow with "traditional" sexuality. I believe in being the higher person and extending the olive branch, and I believe the best changes are those that happen over time. I don't believe in flooding the person to change, I believe in being there with as many steps as I can. In between that final stage that person WILL make mistakes, and other wills make unjustifiable ones (practically the DAY after Prop 8 was passed protesters of 8 were arrested and beaten in front of a Mormon church, and probably shot with a taser -- it was nauseating), but I do believe it will turn out all right in the end. I believe that if I give something, I will get something back. History had ignorant people believing 'the gay' could be beaten out of someone, that it was a mental imbalance (poor individuals suffered shock therapy) -- and that was absolutely disgusting, no one believed when someone said '...I was just born this way' -- people still don't, sadly. So I don't see how being cruel to someone 'born' to see only straight couples should be railed against; too many years of growing up seeing only straight people takes time. It takes time to strip away the outside and see two people who love each other, not a freakish abnormality, and getting someone to make an adjustment like that involves getting personal with that person who currently disgusts you, not shoving them away.
