Because then you are doing specialize law for a specialized group of people and that is confusing and burdensome. I don't think that is actually that pragmatic. If they are both the same then why call them something different?

To make society grow out of marriage slowly.

That is never going to happen. And if it does, it will not happen in our lifetimes. Marriage is a civil institution. It started that way and it remained that way. That there is also a religious version does not change that.

Also I would like to be able to gain equal civil rights in my lifetime, and not when I am 84.
