Also?

Because there are just so many canon gays for us to choose from! I can rarely ever find myself represented in the things I read or watch, and I don't want to just watch the shows that are 'aimed' at lesbians. Because, I'm not really all that into soap opera type shows. If we can't get our representation in fandom, where else are we supposed to go?

And when there are canon gay characters? Well, go to After Ellen (www.afterellen.com) and find out. ABC exec's just made Grey's Anatomy fire one of the two actresses from a storyline that *gasp* had two of the women doctors realize they were gay/bisexual. Apparently someone was uncomfortable with the 'graphicness' of the way the relationship was going. Even though on a show that has a lot of bed hopping, had one scene where they were in their nighties post sex and shared one little very chaste kiss.

Basically, yeah, we're also in it for the hot porn. But a whole load of us just want to see other types of relationships that exist actually explored.

[And yeah, I probably would've left this be if it weren't for the whole ABC thing right now, it has my panties all in a twist]

ABC's decision to fire Brooke Smith made me punch a wall in rage. Wow, apparently gays on ABC can only be the cute, harmless, hands-holding fluffy version. Any mention of, gasp, actual sexuality, and it's the axe for them!

Also, we can also only be rating grabbing sweeps episodes. And on episodic crime shows we are only ever the victims or murderers [not that we can't be, but it's the fact that that's the only roles gay characters EVER get on those shows that's the problem].

I like how other couples can even sleep naked, but when the couple in a lesbian relationship has SEX. They do it in their nighties. And underwear.

IAWTC!

I femslash the hell out of everything because there are miniscule amounts of canonical lesbians, even less canonical lesbian relationships, and almost NO canon lesbian relationships with the kind of depth the het couples get. And I'm not really into soap opera type shows, either. I'm glad The L Word exists, but I don't really want to watch it.

But the OP probably wasn't thinking of femslash. No one ever does. *emo*

Oh you are so right. But as they said "homosexual", I figured I could jump right in with my current pent up rage.

And yeah, I'm glad The L Word exists, but it's at this point, SUCH a soap opera that I'm watching it for completely shallow reasons.
