123. I'm so upset that my parents both voted for this, even though I came out to them six years ago and they know I was intending to propose to my girlfriend, that I haven't even noticed whether or not anyone is fandom has supported it.

That would be very upsetting.

I'm so sorry. The one thing I can always count on is that my parents will support me in all of my decisions; I haven't even tried to imagine how I would react if they choose to shut me out in this regards.

I purposely didn't bring this up with them for a long time, because I knew the possibility that they would vote for it, and I just didn't want to know. Election night, after it had been called for Obama, who I supported and they didn't, they called me just to gloat that Prop 8 had passed.

Sometimes I can't believe these people are my parents. :(

I was too stunned when they told me they had voted on it, which was on Election night, that I didn't say anything.

I haven't talked to them since. When I do, I'm pretty sure I'll say something.

I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry to hear your parents feel that way. Mine probably would have voted for it too, given the chance, and that upsets me. I can't imagine how much it hurts when it effects you so directly like that. I hope they come around.

I hear you, anon. I came out to my parents this summer, and they both voted yes. My dad had the graciousness to also bring up stoning of homosexuals in the Old Testament when we were discussing the prop. Of course, he said I shouldn't be offended because it was just a fact.

Don't worry about it. My dad's an ass, and I'm learning how to deal with it. Or more realistically, how to avoid prolonged contact.
