About a troubled little girl that in a situation no nine year old should be in, basically. It's also about obligation and growing up.

The whole "Rin was to bone her teacher" is only a superficial part of it. Hell, she cuts out the sexual behavior towards him later on in the series when she realizes it's useless when he is attracted to a fellow teacher in the school.

FYI: It's not published in a lolicon anthology either, so no, it's not aimed at lolicons. Like I said before, if you read this title for that, you're going to be disappointed.

I sorry, that was pretty mean, but can you really see that image and refuse to acknowledge what kind of audience would be attracted to it? I won't question your stance on the validity of the plot, but I don't think I'll ever pick up the series because the imagery is very disturbing to me. Fanservice is fanservice.

I'm not saying that lolicons wouldn't be attracted to it, but it's not made for a lolicon's pleasure, especially it slams against them. Like I said before, they will get disappointed.

Kodomo no Jikan uses fanservice to make a point. At first, Rin uses it to intimidate Aoki, the teacher and it's not titillating at all when you interpret the mood around it. Besides any scene where an adult has less than appropriate intentions towards a child (for example there pilot chapter where there was a principle molesting children [which you don't see, thank god] or when Reiji, Rin's guardian, goes all creepy), the scenes are not made to be sexy, rather it's made to creep you the fuck out and it's very clear about that. That would not fly in actual lolicon.

Take a look at Rin, Rin is a deconstruction of the precocious girls in lolicon. In lolicon, the girls are made to act a lot more mature than they're actually are. As the story progress, you realize that Rin is acting a part she believes she's supposed to play. Although she makes sexual jokes and the such, it's obvious that she's picking them up somewhere and it's obvious she doesn't fully understand what implication it brings. She's pressured by her guardian to become her mother and she feels she needs to tailor to his needs to help him. That's a very typical child behavior for her to react, even in an unhealthy situation like that. She's a sad, lonely girl trying to go something that's out of her hands because she felt responsible for her mother's death.

And that it's published in an anthology where there's no other lolicon title. I think that is something take note at because there are plenty of lolicon anthologies in Japan. And I don't think a title like Kodomo no Jikan would be accepted in it anyway since it goes everything against it.

That's why I feel that Kodomo no Jikan shares a lot of shades to Lolita in some cases, except Aoki isn't there to abuse Rin, but to help her. I mean, was Lolita made for pedos since it had passages of Humbert Humbert openly lusting over Lolita? No.

But I admit that Kodomo no Jikan isn't for everyone, but it's wrong to insist it's for lolicons.

That's so wrong on so many levels. I don't need to read anything to know that's pedo-bait.

I love anime and manga, but I'm disturbed by the level of acceptance for 'lolicon' and 'shotacon.' To me, much of what's in those genres borders on pornographic at best and is pornographic at worst. Good plot doesn't make up for that.
