Just like... it's patently obvious that it's not going to be a faithful adaptation of the actual text. So how many times can people really keep getting mad about that fact?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-26 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
As many times as they want. They don't have to regulate their opinions and emotions just because you don't think they're valid. You can opt not to listen, however. Doesn't that seem like the best solution for everyone?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-26 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
And I don't have to regulate my opinion about their opinion if I don't want to

(Anonymous) 2020-01-26 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well sure, if your idea of fun is coming to threads to complain that other people are caring too much about something you'd prefer them to shut up about. Enjoy, I guess?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-26 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Enjoy, I guess?

You too!

(Anonymous) 2020-01-26 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, I don't do that stuff. If people are talking about something I don't want to hear about, I don't participate. I don't enjoy stirring up drama.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-26 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's difficult to "not listen" when they're so. miserably. intrusive.

And loud.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mean to dismiss your experience, but I can tell you my own - the only complaints I've heard about this are here on FS. I'm sure there's a very vocal part of fandom who doesn't like the changes (and from what I've heard, I don't blame them) but that part of fandom can't infiltrate my online presence unless I allow it by not being diligent with filtering, muting, blocking or stepping away from social media for a break.

How are these people getting access to you? It's not like you're fast asleep and argumentative fans bust down your bedroom door at 3am to piss and moan about how shit the adaptation is going to be, right? I'm thinking that you have a lot more control over the situation than you're claiming to have. If you're sick of it, exercise that control and opt out of the negativity. That might include stepping away from the fandom spaces where this is a problem. Take responsibility instead of trying to make it seem like your only option is martyrdom, ffs.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
But why don't the people complaining about the TV show also do that, then

(Anonymous) 2020-01-26 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Forever. The first announcements out of the BBC suggested a fairly standard adaptation. Then it was more vague, "conceptual", but still using the characters and setting. Now it's a few people with the names of beloved characters and not much else, running around a city inexplicably named Ankh-Morpork.
We were told we would be getting chocolate cake, and now it looks like we're getting natto. There's people out there who love natto, but the people who wanted cake are not wrong to be cross.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-26 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
At some point, though, once it's become clear about natto, you know it's natto, don't you?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
And surely it's up to the person who's been promised chocolate cake but got natto to decide when they're finished being disappointed... I mean. It'd be ridiculous and presumptuous to imply that we've decided that they can't be disappointed anymore, right?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ayrt - personally, I'll probably start to get over it when the BBC *stops* shouting "Natto! Delicious natto! Perfect for people who love chocolate cake!"

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
How does this affect you again?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
it annoys me
