I've found that, sometimes, writers have a real disconnect with showing versus telling for some characters. They'll have other characters say that Character A is nice or noble or morally upright, but the actions they have Character A take don't really support that reading. It annoys me, because it is lazy and inconsistent writing and even though I know it isn't what they really mean to do, I try to reconcile it in my mind so that it makes sense in canon (maybe Character A used to be that way and the other characters have a skewed perception them now).
