I've been hanging just on the outskirts of the Doctor Who fandom for a long time now, and honestly, it doesn't matter what the show does or says, nobody is ever happy.
The original show had an enormous amount of problems, and is basically impossible to watch today. Most people who put the original run on some kind of pedestal only have their memories to go by. Memories they pick and choose from to suit their interests, because that's how recollection works, and nothing can compare to a memory that can't be contested.
It's the only rationality I can think of because re-boots happen all the time. Doctor Who wasn't the first, and there have been far more inaccurate/disloyal re-boots that Doctor Who can't even compare to some. Most fans know which version they prefer and leave it at that, stop watching/don't interact with the fans who like the version they're not partial to.

It isn't as if people even agree on who's the best doctor, or what the 'right' interpretation might be either. It's just a bunch of people yelling and criticizing at anything they can manage, because nobody is apparently allowed to be happy with anything this series does.

Honestly, it's not even a classic Who versus new Who thing. That's definitely an issue, but even within classic and new Who, there's vicious disagreement about what Doctor Who should be

Doctor Who fandom is just Like That. It's just intrinsically crazy and weird and I include myself in that.

ayrt

Meh, I don't think I'll ever get it, really. It's why I've never quite done much more than just dip my feet into the fandom. I'll casually enjoy it from afar, but that's about it.
