Paul Rudd was A+, but I suppose that doesn't strictly count.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, nice! I agree. Very hot, but probably doesn't count.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It totally does count.

My favorite version of Emma in every way.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
We're really saying Johnny Lee Miller isn't hot now?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I am.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I am baffled, then

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
His forehead is huge.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never thought JLM was conventionally hot, but good lord, who needs conventionally hot when you have that soft-spoken voice and that screen presence.

Anyway, the way I read the secret, it's not that OP thinks JLM isn't hot. Just that he's not hot enough to portray the character.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's annoying when Internet men have insane nitpicky comments about how objectively gorgeous women aren't hot enough and it's annoying here.

To be clear, I am in no way saying that OP must personally find JLM attractive.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Attractiveness is entirely subjective anyway. When anyone says whether someone is attractive or not, all they can possibly be saying is that they personally do or don't find them attractive.

You... see "insane nitpicky comments" here?

Agreed. His physical appearance is fine, it's the voice and presence that takes him over the top.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-28 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
He's hot, for sure.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
this's my fave adaptation, this and Clueless 1995.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to love the Kate Beckinsale one but I had such a hard time with how very unattractive I found Mark Strong.

Okay.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-27 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought Jeremy Northam was hot (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000562/mediaviewer/rm319577088), but I also thought Paul Rudd was cute in Clueless (and I thought cute actually fit that version better), and I've always thought Jonny Lee Miller was attractive.

Re: Okay.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-29 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind JLM, but I would definitely take JN (not sure why you picked that picture, though) and PR over him any day.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-28 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I hated that version, but I do find that guy very attractive. Even in Trainspotting.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-28 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I don't buy JLM as a gentleman. I think that was my problem with him in that role.

I liked the guy from the new one in the more recent version of Vanity Fair. He played a good Dobbins. I don't think he quite fits the part either, but he'll probably be watchable and not make that weird face that JLM makes all the time that looks like he just smelled a fart.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-28 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
Do you mean that he looks too modern?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-28 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
He's not polished enough for it, if that makes sense?

(Anonymous) 2020-01-29 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought the point of the story was that Emma filled her friend's head with high-flown ideas about partners and overlooked the good in the "ordinary" people who might be more appropriate partners for her - and did the same with herself. So Knightly should be a huge mislead for the audience, right? You shouldn't see him as some hunky guy she should lust after - he's the good solid sort who gets overlooked for more flashy material.

(Anonymous) 2020-01-29 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, agreed.
