Oh well, these things happen. It's a huge NOTP for me because I can't stand Xue Yang and I do actually ship Xiao Xingchen with Song Lang but I've had ships similar to the XY/XXC dynamic in other fandoms so I could have just as well fallen into this ship in this fandom as well. Pure chance that I didn't, really.

I'm the OP of the secret (thank you secret maker!) and I'm truly baffled tbh cause I hate him outside that relationship, too (tho he's definitely entertaining to watch)??? Like, I'm considering writing fanfic for the first time in ten years in which XY finally gets to meet XXC again after like 5 lifetimes of atonement, to beg for forgiveness?

And I totally understand your ship. Like I said, I usually go for the best friends/soulmates kind of ship, but this... /helpless flailing

I'm new to Chinese dramas and am on Untamed (yay!). But my years of anime training make Japanese stuff easy enough to follow but I canNOT keep track of the Chinese names. I don't even remember the two main characters. I swear to God they have multiple names each, which doesn't help, and I have zero understanding of Chinese honorific systems.

But anyway I ship pretty boy protagonist with sulky un-smiley pretty boy.

It took me a while to keep all the names and different titles straight but I found it helps to have the Wikipedia character list nearby, plus the fandom wiki.

I have a friend from Shanghai who takes every opportunity to laugh at how bad I am at keeping track of Chinese names while, at the same time, acknowledging that everyone in any story worth telling has at least five of them.

To be fair, we don't see a ton of interaction between Xiao Xingchen and Song Lan in the show. We're told they're close but we don't get to see much of that closeness while Xue Yang and Xiao Xingchen get a LOT more onscreen time together.

Xue Yang is cute. If it makes you feel any better, I'm trying not to ship Wei Wuxian and Zombie!Wen Ning because apparently I'm a terrible person.
