Headcanon Thread
(Anonymous) 2020-01-31 12:09 am (UTC)(link)Re: Headcanon Thread
I personally think that Celebrimbor was suspicious of Sauron/Annatar, at least at first. But he forced those voices down because of all the things his grandfather, father, and uncle had done. His grandfather and father both never trusted anyone. So Celebrimbor thought that his suspicion was a Feanorian family trait thing and bad and that he needed to be different and ignore that inner voice that told him something was wrong.
I think the One Ring spoke in Sauron's head and had at least a bit of effect on him too. The obsession we see for it is yes because he needs it to win, but it is also because it is part of his magic and because this thing he made influences him as he influences it. The same way we see others react to the Ring is also something Sauron experiences, though not exactly the same since it is his Ring.
Since canon doesn't tell us who came up with the name Sauron to use for him, I always headcanon that it was Maedhros. Feanor came up with Morgoth. And Maedhros spent 20-30 years imprisoned in Angband and had to have interacted by Melkor's lieutenant at some point. Given that the name is the exact opposite of who Sauron sees himself as- his original name, Mairon, means admirable or precious, and wants to be admired. So calling him abhorred had to have come from someone who knew him.
As Celebrimbor was the only Feanorian grandchild, I like to imagine him being doted on by his grandparents and all his uncles and being taught different things by each of them.
We know that Sauron had a hand in all Melkor's works. That's an exact line. So I like to imagine them planning things like orcs, dragons, and balrogs together and Sauron having input on the design and some of his power going into them as well as Melkor's (at least with the orcs certainly since later on he can command them).
For a non-Tolkien one, I have very clear headcanons on the personalities of Hux and Kylo Ren. Hux is obsessed with control in all aspects of his life. He needs it. He plans. Not a thing can be out of place. And a well-executed plan is the thing that pleases him the most. This is why he believes in the First Order, even though given the abuse of his Imperial father he'd have every reason to want to go the opposite route. But a top-heavy government that controls things and keeps order is what he believes in (especially of course with him at the top).
Kylo/Ben, on the other hand, is a guy who thinks he needs to be in control but in reality just wants to follow orders. He just wants to know what he's supposed to do. He wants to have someone to obey and therefore please so that he knows his place in the universe and stops feeling self-loathing and like he doesn't belong. Snoke was horrible and abusive, clearly, and never actually praised him much if at all and always continued to make him feel like he was doing things wrong and was himself wrong.
Canon-wise, he finally found someone worthy of following and believing in with Rey, which he finally was able to realize when she healed him of the wound she herself had caused. Fanon-wise, obviously as more of a Kylo/Hux shipper, I personally enjoy the fix where Hux starts controlling Ren sexually, then in other ways, and ends up as Emperor with Kylo as his second-in-command. That dynamic works for me and makes sense. But obviously that isn't canon and would be an AU headcanon.
