My Japanese class would like to have a word with you. XD We've come up with our own drama about how everything is Mary's fault. We also like saying 「とんかつ?魚ですか。」 Takeshi is the poster boy for everything bad happening to him, not to mention is flat broke. General consensus in our class is that Takeshi deserves better. Robert is always high or drunk (Look at his eyes!), and we think he was interested in Michiko because he called her to watch a movie. Michiko isn't interested because she asked if Sue could come too. She might like John. (So, a little disagreement with the pairings.) Ken has absolutely no friends. Sue has something suspicious about her because my class is wondering why Mary's host mother would give a kimono to Sue, another foreign exchange student. That's one expensive gift! John's an irresponsible person and generally a loser. Yamashita-sensei secretly hates all of his students.

Fun stuff and allows for some interesting grammar practice. XD

And, I can't believe I spent all that time typing up character analysis for my textbook. Nice to know it isn't just my class.

Haha my class has decided that Takeshi is a player who is dating Mary, and seeing Sue on the side.

I always write zombie-esque comments next to Robert's pictures (generally some form of "braaaaaiins", as I am not clever). And one of the exercises had a guy pointing at some vegetables,(we were supposed to say "yasai wa oishii desu" I think), but the dude was so freaking creepy.

Didn't Robert take a random trip to Okinawa with someone? I always thought there was something a little suspicious about that myself.

Yes, he was with Ken to the beach. They went surfing, or at least, Robert did. I don't know if Ken ever learned how to.

And Robert also sent Takeshi a postcard and asked how him date with Mary was.

I'm not sure what to make of the trip. These foreign exchange students keep going on lots of trips. Where are they getting this money? XD

A couple of my classmates and I have a blast reading the soap opera that is Mary and Takeshi's love life. Particularly:

-The part of Genki II where the verb "to propose" is introduced, and, in the corresponding workbook page sentence translations, Takeshi proposes to Mary, and

=Lesson 23 dialogue, where Mary leaves and Takeshi promises to wait for her. It was supposed to be moving, but I thought it was pretty funny considering that they're seventeen at best. We maintain that, when Mary comes back, Takeshi will have gotten together with Sue or Michiko instead. (I can't tell them I'd sooner see see Takeshi with Robert.)

the most tragic fucking thing about moving up in Japanese study is that THERE IS NO MORE MARY TO BLAME ALL OF TAKESHI'S PAIN ON. T______T

but uh we had a ghostwriting contest in my class for the most epic ending to the drama that is the Genki characters. I think the winning entry involved Takeshi and Mary committing a lovers' suicide a la Dazai Osamu~
