Nonnie, check out places like the Cranky Fandom Olds discord? (previously Cranky Old Fangirls). Most of the people there are older fans, and it was a good mix of social interaction and fannish discussion.

Second this. Also, we're still on dreamwidth you know, for individual fandoms. You just have to go looking. There are so many people sad/nostalgic and yet if they all just got together on DW they'd have what they were nostalgic about.

Seconding joining Dreamwidth! Overall it may not be as active as Tumblr (or LJ at its fannish height), but there's a good solid community of fans here for a lot of things, it just takes some searching and poking around.

Do you have any suggestions on how to search?

My way of doing it has basically been: find a fandom that you're into (or used to be into) and join a bunch of communities for it. Sometimes this works out great, sometimes it doesn't, but generally speaking, find something for a fandom(s) that is fairly active--maybe updated within the last week/month. Join a bunch, and maybe go through the last few posts & find things you want to talk about, and then just do it. Chances are good you'll get a response!

I've also done the whole friending-community thing, such as [community profile] addme_fandom, which is a good place because you can search by fandom for other people who are looking for fans who share their interests.

There's also a more general [community profile] addme community, so you can try there. DW is probably more fan-centered than not, but there are some communities where the focus is something more RL-centric, like knitting or crafting. Those are the communities/things I've done, and I've got a fairly hoppin' circle now (for me; on LJ I think I had about as many people friended as I do now, lol).

I hope that helps!

Thank you, I'll check these out!

Same here, OP. I really miss the sense of small fandom community and camaraderie that used to be such a big part of my daily life, but Livejournal went belly up and people sort of drifted off. I miss that. :(

I know the feeling, OP. I remember posting stuff on LJ back in the 'heyday' and, twenty, thirty, forty people would comment and chat and add stuff and it was just...really amazing!

I miss that level of interaction with my fandom friends.

Yeah, the only time I actually interacted in fandom was in the LJ days, and randomly in the forums of FF.net. I have no idea where to go looking now. Even Discord seems unorganized and complicated. Honestly, I haven't even tried, I'm far too flaky for my own good...

I'm into a new fandom right now but too scared to interact with others as I'm too old-most fans are in their teens or 20's, have a strong dislike for places like Tumblr, Twitter etc (have had bad experiences in the past especially with Tumblr) and basically have no one to share this with so I kinda of relate to this secret.
