What video games have you rage quit?

Why?
kaijinscendre: (me when tired)

Ori and the Blind Forest. Got stuck on one part where you had to use Bash to get thru a bunch of turns without stopping. Tried to get thru it dozens of times. Gave up.

Old RPG called Beyond the Beyond. It's derivative af and the story's paper thin, the combat's not that great, the characters are basically cardboard cutouts, but I'm weirdly fond of it for some reason.

AT LEAST... until the Arawn Palace. Which somehow I keep forgetting. It's confusing to traverse, the already-stupidly-high encounter rate is even higher, you're lugging a useless cursed lump of flesh in the form of a man (Samson) so your party is p much one fighter, a squishy healer, and a squishy mage, up against really powerful (and often 5+) enemy groups. It's brutal. I usually make it about halfway before I want to kill something.

omg I haven't played that in years, but you make me want to dig it out. I never got far in it, but it was always weirdly fun for how hard it was

Yay, someone else remembers it! I have no idea why I have the affection for it that I do, haha. The music is good! And I like the portrait art, it's very retro-anime. But MAN it has no excuse to be as hard as it is.

I did finally just force myself through the whole thing not too far back, and I am happy to inform you that it doesn't get any better.

LOL. I have time this weekend, now I'm really tempted. All I really remember about it was that it was incredibly tough and yet weirdly endearing.

XII.

I hate Vaan and his sheer, goddamn stupidity. I got to where they're meeting some dude (I don't remember who, but he was politically important) and they were all 'dude, don't fucking say Basch's name in front of this guy' and literally two fucking seconds later he does it.

Admittedly, that was my third attempt at the game because between my sheer hatred of Vaan's stupidity (even in previous scenes) and my undisguised loathing of the combat system, I was already predisposed to not get through the game. This particular Vaan moment was just the straw that broke the camel's back for good.

But I really, really fucking liked Fran and Ashe and Balthier so to this day I'm super salty about Vaan.

Vaan is awful. I hate how totally inconsequential he is; apparently that was intentional, because he was supposed to be a "blank slate" to project yourself onto, but goddamn, he was just so mindnumbing that I resented it.

Yes, that! I understand the blank slate concept (though I feel it worked better before games became 3d and had voice acting...) but Vaan was so stupid that the implication that -I- was Vaan is just infuriating. Sure, I'd been 'in' that world for all of a few minutes but even so I knew more than Vaan did!

There's this puzzle-platformer called The Cave where you pick three characters from the lineup, and go through the various puzzles on all the levels using the different special skills of your chosen characters.
Fun enough, but there was one bit where you had to carry a flower down a hallway. There was a broken window at the other end, and the wind blew threw it at intervals. If you didn't turn to face the other way in time, the wind would blow the flower to bits, and you'd have to go back to the start of the hallway and get a new flower. I did this twenty times, then gave up.

Oh yes, that game had a few ragequit inducing points. I loved it and played it a lot but I can totally understand ragequitting it. I did ragequit certain character runs myself because some things were simply too annoying to go through with some character skills,

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

In fact I rage finished it because I have a bad habit of not finishing things I like, and rage finishing the things I don't so I never have to think about them again.
I can't even properly describe why plot wise, (though there were so many) since the point of rage finishing it is so I can forget all about it.
I just hated the concept of fighting for Daien, The Black Knight being alive. (pettily) That couldn't transfer my save file from Path of Radiance because they only added easy mode in the english version and it wasn't transferable. I spent the special currency on Michela because I was /trying/ to like her /so much/, but she only got worse and worse. I hated that they could kill important characters from PoR (my favourite Fire Emblem game of all time) that I knew and loved, but when I tried to kill the main party from RD back (or at least the ones I got to) just pulled the 'oh I'm injured, must retreat' bullshit. Sothe was just some bullshit yes-man.
and then all the crap about chosen ones and gods or whatever. I hated that game.

World of Warcraft. I ragequit several times over the 11 or so years I played it, but I stopped playing a year or two (midway through the Legion expansion) and haven't gone back since.

Reasons are complex. I didn't like the attitude of certain of the devs. I hated with they did with certain characters. I got tired of the ingrained misogyny and racism, and the toxic fanboys, and the 90s-era queer baiting.
Also, I can scratch my mindless MMo-itch with F2P games.

The upcoming expansion is bringing back a character who I spent 8 years writing about, but so far even that hasn't made a fire from cold ashes.

FFX.

It's been over a decade, but there was that part when you were in that big field. I followed the dot on the map and was at the ending even though I was only 48 hours in and had only collected half the Aeons. I couldn't go back.

Normally, I would just start a new game, but Wakka. I fucking hated Wakka. He wasn't just racist, he was completely mindless and just doing what the guys in charge told him to. They told him to be racist, so he took it to the most illogical extremes. He was painfully stupid and I hated everything about him. Then to add insult to injury, his weapon is the best weapon in the game. He even gets one that can kill bosses in one hit and it's a dodge ball. A fucking dodge ball!

So I quit and never played it again.

Eh, Wakka stops being racist when he realizes things aren't that black and white (pun not intended).

I also don't think his weapon is necessarily the best. It just depends on customization or what is needed at the time.
