LOL this secret and the one above, A+ placement

...manly, straight, and socially adjusted doesn't horribly murder people and then gloat about it right in the protagonists' faces

FTFY

Right?? He's the only homunculus who even comes close to being a nice person. It's no wonder people like him.

Also given how Arakawa tends to really, REALLY like super-manly dudes...it's hard for me to see Greed as being particularly "manly" as a character, compared to other characters.

OP

I worded that poorly. I meant how the homunculus who is naturally most human-like, able to socialize with humans, independently capable and conforms to gender roles is also the only one with morals and the one who’s redeemed. Compared to Envy who’s effeminate and acts mentally ill and is one of the cruelest bastards in the series, and Gluttony and Sloth who are ugly simpleton brutes, it felt unfair to me.

What about Lust? or Wrath? Their entire jobs are being independent, socializing with humans, and playing human roles, and they still have no morals.

And Envy is nonbinary, not effeminate, and the "cruel bastard" thing is kiiiiind of a big deal.

What? It's... "unfair" that people like the character who's not a psychotic piece of garbage and actually has, like, a PERSONALITY? That's dumb as hell, OP.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-06 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me guess. *Your* favourite homunculus is Lust, whose main personality trait is "takes very clear pleasure in hurting people", because Girl.

It's been a really long time since I read or watched either version of FMA, but I don't remember him being sexist? He had girls hanging off him in that cliche hot bad guy way, but it didn't seem like they were forced into it, it was more like "oh he's a chick magnet."

Or does being manly and straight automatically mean sexist? That is a popular opinion in some circles, I know.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-06 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
His opening statement is something like "I want all the women and money in the world," which I can understand seeing as sexist.

On the other hand, he's the embodiment of greed, and I can't see limiting to yourself to one gender as greedy.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-07 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
This. Not to pull the "bisexuals are greedy" trope but...

(Anonymous) 2020-02-07 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't he only have the women hanging off of him in that one scene? Where the bigger deal was, you know, the kidnapping? And the women seemed happy to be around him IIRC, so all in all, while I understand the accusation of sexism, it's hard to see where he should have been called out on it.

I'm really curious which antis you're talking about here because don't get me wrong, I LOVE the other homunculi, but they're objectively evil. Some of them have truly beautiful arcs and I wish a couple had had the same chance for redemption, but Greed at least HELPED.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
every fma anti i’ve seen who writes screeds on how you’re a genocidal war criminal if you like kimblee or envy or even roy mustang has been a huge greed stan

(Anonymous) 2020-02-07 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, those three did do genocide. I can't speak to the "you're X if you like characters who X" shit because that's obviously always a load of crap, but it's not shocking that some people really like the character who didn't commit genocide over the ones who did.

OP

(Anonymous) 2020-02-07 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with that. It’s just that antis get so smug about how their faves are so wholesome and pure (even when villains or morally gray) unlike whoever’s their latest Kyle Ron bogeyman that it can sour me on those characters.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-07 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Is this just about original/2003 anime Greed or including manga/Brotherhood/Greed 2.0?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-07 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the picture is from Brotherhood, so can't be only about the first one.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-07 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, it's okay if you don't like Greed, but those reasons are kind of bizarre.
