It's an honest question. (Anon notes the irony of using an icon featuring the Pope to smack anon, as last time anon checked, the Pope is Catholic and Catholicism does not support homosexual relationships. Unless things have changed since anon left Catholicism?)

Gay people currently have the same rights straight people have; that is, to marry someone of the opposite sex. If I were straight, I would not have the right to marry someone the same sex as myself. As a homosexual, why should I have more rights? What is so special about me that I deserve more rights than most people just because I prefer people with the same genitalia?

...or maybe everyone deserves the right to marry whomever they love, regardless of gender?

Straight people have the right to marry someone they love.

Gay people do not have that right.

I hope you realize your argument makes no sense. If you say that rights are equal because gay people can marry someone of the opposite sex, then obviously rights would still be equal if straight people could marry someone of the same sex.

On the off-chance that you are not a troll and are in fact a complete idiot, here is how it works out:

Right now, straight people can marry someone of the opposite sex and so can gay people (though presumably most don't want to).

If same-sex marriages were legalized, gay people could marry someone of the same sex and so could straight people (though presumably most wouldn't want to).

Unless you're thinking they're going to make people bring documented evidence of their gayness when they go to get a marriage license, or something, no one ends up with any more or fewer rights than anyone else.

Your argument is completely faulty, of course, because you neglect to consider that if gay marriage is legalized, straight people are getting the right to marry people of the same sex too! Hooray, everybody's equal!
