Actually, I was already angry and upset about Prop 8. But thanks for making assumptions/the hostile tone!

I get twitchy because my girlfriend and I can't get married and I keep seeing people who are, sure, against Prop 8, but only get emotional about it when it affects some fictional character/s. There's a difference. I admit I'm getting rather blunt about it because it's like salt on a wound.

I hadn’t even thought about Prop 8 in a fannish context before reading that, so that’s where my initial reaction came from. You’re right though, the secret is problematic, and I can see why you’d be pissed off- it’s a really personal issue (for the record, I can’t get married in CA either). Being fandomsecrets, most of us (including me!) probably have a little problem with the line between reality and fiction. This is just a case where it’s more troubling than usual.

Still, I would like to believe that popular culture does have an impact on issues like this. The larger problem of queer fetishism in fandom aside, at least the OP is on the right of it even if it’s for the wrong reasons.
