This is a new low even for FS.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
How on Earth?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
This comm tries to find something wrong with everything, but Batman/Robin? Seriously?

I love that GIF!

I don't care one way or another personally, but it seems really obvious why some people might not like a father figure / much younger protege ship????

SA

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's not like OP is trying to tell anyone not to ship it, either!

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
That's how you define their dynamic? I just thought he was his sidekick.

So this is just standard-level FS age-gap purity.

OP isn't telling others not to ship, they are just saying they personally don't like it. How is that a "new low?"

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. One actually is his son, biologically. At least two others were unofficially adopted as 'wards'.

I don't have a horse in this race ship-wise, but to say there's no element at all of guardianship at the very least is kind of missing a big chunk of the Batman/(most)Robin(s) dynamic.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
OK. All my knowledge of Batman comes from the first two Tim Burton movies, so I'll take your word for it.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
He has four main Robins. The first is Dick. He was adopted by Batman when he was around age 11. The second is Jason. He was adopted around age 12 when adopted by Batman. The third was Tim. He became Robin around age 13. The fourth is Damien who is Batman's biological son.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
I thought Dick Grayson didn't want to be adopted because of his parents so he wasn't ? But with all the different reboots I don't know anymore.

DA

Did you start this thread? Because if so you should probably know what you're talking about before you start jumping down people's throats.

Ah.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
So all your Batman knowledge comes from movies where Robin as a character doesn't exist. And you thought you would disparage someone for an opinion about character dynamics you know nothing about. Someone who didn't say it was wrong for anyone else, but that it didn't feel right for them. Even in the Joel Schumacher follow-up, a relationship between them would have issues, given that Robin loses his entire family and Bruce offers to foster him.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know what you mean about "purity", OP has a right to their own opinion.

And it's also funny - we hear a lot about how terrible it is that people feel like they have to justify their preferences when it comes to this, and how we shouldn't have to be defensive about their ships, and how it's ship-and-let-ship and everyone has a right to what they like. But when someone *doesn't* look a ship, that apparently stops applying.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course they have a right to their opinion, and I'm not judging them for not shipping something. I just get really tired of hearing how problematic literally everything is and was reacting to that, OK?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
TBF, the OP never said it was problematic (which IMHO denotes an artificial sense of objectivity, i.e., "this IS wrong"), only that it felt wrong to them personally and that's why they can't get behind the ships. It's a super-subjective and personal perspective, and doesn't at any point claim to be anything else.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
no, no anon, personal preferences are now no longer allowed on here, you MUST like everything, including ships/content that literally squick you or make you uncomfortable otherwise you are a horrible member of the pUrItY bRiGaDe.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
How peaceful and drama free your everyday life must be if someone not wanting to ship Batman/Robin(s) is a "low", much less a "new low".

(Anonymous) 2020-02-08 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
this just in: people can not like things, shocking i know.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Tumblr is thataway -> ->

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, I'm confused, because usually "Tumblr" on FS is a stand-in for the sort of "purity brigade" approach to fandom that AYRT is accusing OP of endorsing

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Oddly enough, *most* people aren't keen on a pairing of "Adult man / his adoptive son(s)". Wild, I know.

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
So, what's the new low? Robin/Robin shipping? Not shipping Batman/Robin? Stephanie Brown erasure?

You confuse me, dramatic-yet-vague anon.
