I watched the show as a teen, and only ever saw him as a mentor/father figure, and as a member of that second class of beings called "adults" (lol).

So it's always interesting when I go back and rewatch now, to realize that Giles definitely...has a particular type of appeal. I'm still not really into him, myself, but my perspective on him has definitely changed.
