To be honest, I love Aidan Gillen but I feel like he's slumming it in this role. He's a real actor and this is, not to put too fine a point on it, a deeply pseudohistorical UFO investigator biodrama.

IMO if a role like that was good enough for Gillian Anderson, it's not too good for Aiden Gillen. That is, if it were well written, which it sounds like it's not.

What show are you talking about wrt Anderson?

(Anonymous) 2020-02-09 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, sorry it's X-Files.

Oh, but what bugs me about Project Blue Book is that it presents itself as being historical and true-to-life biodrama, while being sensationalist and fringe-y. The same kind of tone that a lot of other, putatively non-fictional History Channel stuff has.

And those issues are not present with X-Files (for the most part, at least).

Fair enough.

Real actors are also allowed to work on dumb fun shows because it's a steady paycheck.

Yep nothing wrong with a steady paycheck. Especially if it gives them a "fuck you" fund so they can do whatever projects they want.
