They'd be in for a shitstorm for saying that anime does animation right. From a purely technical standpoint, most anime is very compromised in quality.

and sometimes anime is a good example of what to do or what not to do.

They're not saying all anime is amazing animation. That said, some technical aspects of almost ALL of the not-just-for-little-kids anime ARE pretty amazing. I remember the first time I saw Inu-Yasha -- no one could say that its animation is ~amazing~ technically, but upon first seeing it, it was WAY ahead of anything else you could ever see on TV at the time. Some of these details (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbg16KmV6BM) still make me happy -- the snow, the way the characters' hair moves when they do, the mist, the little billow of sand that is kicked up in the water when Kikyo steps back, etc. -- the amount of detail in a lot of anime has always been pretty epic. And yes, I love the animation in The Little Mermaid for the same reason. :3

And some anime really is epic animation. Look up Ghibli stuff, Monster, Hell Girl, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, 5 Centimeters Per Second -- for stylistic beauty, I'd also recommend Gankutsuou/The Count of Monte Cristo and Bakeneko/Mononoke. I still think mostly what the OP is saying that the anime s/he watches, s/he watches for the animation -- and there's nothing wrong even in loving the animation for something like Utena, which isn't brilliant or realistic but is very quirky and also has amazing attention to detail (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhIcvqY2NUo), or even series which are more cartoony, because who doesn't love a good cartoon? -- and that some anime really is an example of good (or bad) animation, just like from any other country in the world.

Well, anon already clarified what I meant, but still, yes, the shitstorm comment was meant at the first part of the secret about the OP saying that he/she watches anime for the animation quality. I've honestly heard about someone watching anime on a portable DVD player, with headphones on, and have an animation student come out of nowhere, and rant about every single shortcut and mistake the animators did.

It really depends on which anime and which studio. And OP said "sometimes," not "all the time".
