So long as there is a translation, I'm good. I love that 'hover over' feature that AO3 has, that shows the translation. That's awesome.

I don't mind, either, if the pov character wouldn't understand the other language - that's fine, too.

But random other-language stuff in an English-language fic with no translation when it's crucial to the plot (or the pov character gets it but we don't) is *very* annoying.

Huh, I didn't know AO3 had that feature. I'll have to check that out!

Oh yes! I've used it in a few of my fic. It's very cool.

Nice!

Yeah, I've done this a few times with fic. Where the POV character is definitely NOT supposed to understand what's being said--so it doesn't matter if the reader does. And if they do, hey, it's a nice little bonus to them!

Yup!

I love the hover feature - I've only ever seen it used once in the Star Trek fandom for an uhura/t'pring fic. I don't know if ao3 has a page letting people know what editing tricks are available, because otherwise its a shame that so much neat stuff goes unnoticed.

Yes! I don't know, either, but they should definitely highlight it.

I've used it, but so many people are on their phone/tablets these days, and I don't think they actually see it :(

Urgh, that sucks. I don't get the attraction of phones. They're tiny and most phone apps look weird or work strangely. Just...so not my thing.

Hour-long commutes, dude....*cries in US public tranport system*

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!! That is so fucking lame.
I'd still have to attempt to get a tablet or something. I'm just old - or, my eyes are - looking at stuff on a phone (my daughter shows me things all the time) is just..... Impossible.
