Anyway, I can actually kinda see where they're coming from. If done in a certain way, it can read super pretentious. But maybe this is also just me getting flashback to the early 2000s where peppering your anime fanfic with weeaboo sentence fragments was popular. That was pretty cringey more often than not.

'Twas a joke. I don't actually think they were being mean. I mean, I know I have some issues with non-English sentences in fanfic for the reasons I mentioned above(and because it sometimes... doesn't really serve a purpose and also, sometimes authors dump really bad google translate into it and that's really stupid and pointless) but the secret doesn't sound like that's what's the issue for OP.
