This never used to bother me, as I was just fine dumping a line I didn't recognize into google translate when it came up. But I've started using a screen reader more and more due to a disability and boy is random bits of other language horrible through a screen reader.

My screen reader (and the ones I've looked into, though possibly a better one exists out there) can only handle one language at a time, even if it can handle multiple languages. Unless I stop and switch the language pack being used to read the line, it will pronounce it using English phonics. This means even if I could have understood the line reading it, the pronunciation gets butchered so badly that I can't understand any of it and can throw me out of the story while I try to parse the nonsense I just heard.

I don't necessarily think fic authors should stop, but it's certainly an experience. :P
