What *good* movie could have been great with a better lead performance?

Good movies, not bad.

I liked the musical version of the Producers a whole lot except I couldn't stand Matthew Broderick in it. Robert Sean Leonard would have been a million times better.

Anyone other than Keanu in Dracula.

Really obvious choice, but Bram Stoker's Dracula would be loads better without Keanu Reaves being terrible as Jonathan Harker.

Rogue One.

Stretching this a little, because The 100 is a) not a movie, and b) not that good. But I feel like Clarke could've been played a lot better by someone else. Eliza Taylor isn't bad really, I just don't feel like she adds anything to what's plain on the page.

She's painfully bland in everything I've seen her in.

I like My Fair Lady and I'm not sure it would have been any better, but I've always wondered how it would have turned out if they'd gone with Julie Andrews (who'd played the stage version alongside Rex Harrison) instead of Audrey Hepburn.

Not quite a lead, but it was fairly obvious Edward Norton did not want to be there for The Italian Job (2003), so, like, anyone else.

I really like Steel Magnolias and I like Daryl Hannah, but I always thought her performance in it didn't quite click.

What less popular games do you wish more people played?

Board or video.

It's neither a board game nor a video game but I love Botticelli and nobody else I know even likes it.

World of Goo. Such a fun game and I don't know anyone who has played it. :(

I wish I knew people who played Settlers of Cataan. And who owned a game since I don't. A friend introduced me to the game years ago, and it is so much fun. Best board game, IMHO.

Yakuza. It's great game that somehow manages to marry both hilarity and more serious issues very, very, well. Also it kills two birds with one stone for this question since it lets you play mahjong, which is a board game I'm learning how to play through it and would love to start trying to play with others! (also koi-koi, a card game played with beautiful hanafuda cards is very fun!)

Uncharted. I've been pretty insufferable with mentioned it all the time on here I suppose, but I really do love the franchise. It's a PS exclusive game, so the small fandom it has doesn't has the best of chances to grow... but I can still dream though...

Codenames, a board game. My sister bought it for me for my birthday and it can be played with two players. It's so much fun!

Weekend Plans?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2020-02-22 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
What is everyone doing?

I need to start on the cow I am crocheting for my sister. I also want to get at least 3 hours of walking in. Other than that, nothing much.

Tomorrow I have to go get mail and check on their house for relatives from a neighboring town who're on vacation, but other than that, I have no plans...probably just hanging out and relaxing. :)

Still have a cold/flu thing, so not much. I have to bring my computer in tomrrow, and other than that no plans. I've caught up on tv, so I'm going to pick an old favorite to comfort watch and then try to get lots of sleep when I can.

well next weekend i'm getting married so this weekend i'm scrambling to clean my apartment and get the boxes out of the guest room and into storage (ftr this would have been done way earlier except i broke my fucking ankle) and settle on a script for the officiant and apparently a schedule for the ceremony and reception that i thought was taken care of already and do a bunch of shopping for both wedding-related things and regular daily things and I don't know, maybe at some point I can sleep?

For a second I pictured a life-size crocheted cow, heh. I have to work tomorrow and then I have Sunday off. Gonna do my laundry, which I didn’t get around to today because I was pulling weeds and planting stuff in the garden, and then probably do more gardening. Maybe I’ll cook something with leftovers for work lunches for the week, and I should do some housecleaning, but it’ll be a slog because I’m a slob.

Going to my uncles for a dinner with my parents. I haven't visited in a while so as much anxiety that it brings I'll be happy to catch up with him and my cousins!

Last night I finally accepted that Picard is a grimdark show. And I feel sad about it because I'm watching the last season of Voyager right now which is totally... not. I know we'll never get that back. No hope, no escapism, just the continued destruction of my beloved characters.
