How much freedom do you get? Where I teach, English teachers get to choose their own books subject to budgetary constraints, which some teachers get around by getting donations or paying for books themselves. One of my colleagues teaches only novels by Indigenous authors in one of her classes. But in larger schools there's more departmental pressure for everyone to teach the same thing.

Anyway, I hope you are in a position to resist teaching the dead white guy books.
