You're probably right about some of this. If you're in a really big fandom with a really popular ship, it stands to reason there's more well-written fics for that ship, because there's simply more fics for that ship in general.

I am absolutely positive that if I could choose to ship Sterek or Destiel or Aziraphale/Crowley, I would have an absolutely fantastic time. There'd be so many awesome fics to read. I'd be set for years. :D

But unfortunately, I can't just choose my ships. My ships choose me.

Haha same. I always seem to end up being into obscure fandoms with unpopular ships and there's never any fic.

Oh, I feel this so much. Most of my ships are rarepairs. I do ship Destiel and it's so nice to have such a huge selection of fic, but at the same time, sometimes I have to weed through a lot of stuff to find exactly what I'm looking for and it's a little annoying.

I shipped two MASSIVE OTPs for like twelve years (not even joking) and in my case I got incredibly lucky and ended up liking very much the same stuff as fandom liked for both those pairings. So it was just twelve years straight of all-you-can-read otp greatness. HEAVEN.

Then I jumped to a medium-sized pairing, but ended up only liking like 5% of the content for that pairing. And holy crap, it is HELL. After twelve years of all-you-can-read, I am simply not cut out for this kind of scarcity! Lol.

Like, straight up, I just assume everyone thinks their fandom is The Greatest. Fandoms are like children that way.

Lol it depends. If the fandom is big, but it's for a show with terrible acting, I wouldn't be interested.

My immediate thought was this was a secret made by a Dr Who fan, mostly because of the 'more canon content' and 'better setting' comments. But Dr Who is such a wanky fandom that can't be right - Star Trek maybe?

Whichever fandom it is, jokes on you - I like what I like and read fanfic to enjoy the exact content I want. There's potential for fic in most things if you like it enough, and more content can often mean more chance to fuck up what I liked about a fandom in the first place.
