This secret just confirmed to me that for me seme/uke dynamics definitely are a characterization issue, because I tried to think of how it could be separated out from that, and couldn't.

I've never been into anime, so I've also never been into seme/uke in the strictest sense. But I can still relate. I care more about who usually tops in my ships than I'm comfortable admitting, and I also care about who is a bit more dommish and who is a bit more subbish, and the one who primarily bottoms is always the subbish one, for me.

It's not nearly as extreme as most seme/uke stuff seems to be, but I still have a strong preference one way or the other - a strong enough preference that I frequently pass on fics where my preferred bottom/sub is tagged as the top/dom. (Though I'll still read stuff tagged as both or as switch.)

This is a thing I don't get at all. Maybe because I've never been that into m/m pairings but recently I found one that really appealed to me except for a few oddities of characterization (I think?) that don't make sense unless they're playing to that particular dynamic - a dynamic I'm not familiar with it at all, so it just looks bizarre and OOC.

most of the time i don't care, just so long as both characters FEEL like their canon-selves i can roll with whoever is doing who. but i do have fandoms where i care and it's mostly because the fic skews so heavily in one direction that i get bored of X always topping, i just want Y to get some dick man. :x

Unrelated but how can you misspell Galo’s name when it’s presented in big huge letters SEVERAL times in the movie?

Also no one can convince me these two don’t switch. They switch in the canon after all and happily cede ‘power’ to each other. One or the other all the time absolutely makes no sense with them, and even a large portion of the Japanese fandom agrees on this for once.

THIS!

I've been so refreshing to be in a fandom like this one.

I was absolutely convinced that most of the content for this pairing would be Lio getting dominated by Galo.
But it's like the majority of the fandom gave that lazy size difference trope the side-eye and proceeded to make things more interesting by really exploring the character dynamics.

I care about it too and don't like switching. Big deal, I've got my tastes and that's it. I actually find it quite tiring how people must proclaim their totally woke preferences for switching, unexpected tops, bottoms, whatever. I don't care, mate.

I used to care a lot more about seme/uke dynamics when I watched a lot more anime, but mostly in a sense that some of my biggest OTP's were put in the opposite positions than I preferred them in. I liked it when people had fun with the positions and didn't go overboard with over-ukefying the bottoms. Otherwise it was just such a thing that I didn't give it much thought.

Like another nonny said "most of the time i don't care, just so long as both characters FEEL like their canon-selves i can roll with whoever is doing who."

I really only care about the pairing, who tops and bottoms is irrelevant. There are a few pairings where I prefer one character topping, but it's still not set in stone and I'll happily read them switched.
