I've not caught up - when was there baby drama between Jake and Amy the first time?

(Anonymous) 2020-03-06 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
There was an ep where it turned out that Amy thought they both wanted a kid and Jake didn't want a kid, and they had an entire debate about whether or not they should have a kid. It was weird tbh, feels like something Amy would've brought up way more than portrayed in the actual show what with how she plans out her life vey rigorously.

DA

That was such BS, there's no way they wouldn't have discussed it long ago. And it pissed me off that of course, the one who doesn't want kids has to be the one to change their mind.

The baby drama was why I gave up on the show after watching the premiere of the current season. I have noooo interest in any of that.

I've watched past the 'baby scare' episode, they're still trying to have kids, but nothings come from it yet. I made this secret in the secrets you're too lazy to make thread when I was convinced they were about to knock her up, (and truthfully I still am) but it seems they've left it alone for an episode or two now, so who knows. (either way I seriously hate the drama of it all at any rate)

I hated the Casecation baby drama and 'resolution'. I watched 2 more after that because the premise sounded good but then I dropped the show entirely.

All shows should do the X Files season 2 thing and simply have the actress stand behind prominent tables and desks for a while and then get abducted by aliens for two episodes

I usually love Frasier but I won't watch the episodes where they used Jane Leeves' pregnancy as an excuse to trot out the tackiest fat jokes I'd heard in a long time.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-06 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't mind that at all, but different tastes are different! :)

That's kinda what they did with her first baby and when Gina's actress was pregnant. I guess they figured that since the characters were married now that it didn't matter even though it doesn't really make sense with with the characters personalities.

Idk my favorite is DS9.

Keiko's actress was fake pregnant, then when Kira's actress started showing, they had the characters get into a weird space accident and in order to save they baby, Bashir had to make Kira the surrogate.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-06 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
That does rule but I still want more alien abductions on TV shows

They could always do what due South did: Give absolutely no fucks and just make everyone go on as if nothing was unusual.

I don't watch this show, but some shows manage to make an actress' pregnancy work. Criminal Minds did a good job with JJ.

Absolutely! I've even seen shows use the surrogate excuse, which can actually be done surprisingly well. I'm pretty sure B99 covered up pregnancies with their actors before, both with Amy's and Gina's actors, maybe the timing was more convenient with them, but it's still possible to be done.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-06 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sort of angry when the writers can't come up with creative storylines for a character when the actress is pregnant. Or when a production team can't come up with good tricks to hide it if they go that route. It's doable.

Honestly I put this show down when she was pregnant the first time and they were like...shoehorning her into scenes it made no sense for her to be in just so they could show her holding a giant bag or something. I was binge-watching on hulu so it was already an old season, I just haven't really picked it back up since then.

It's just frustrating to me when I see people saying "Whoa, she was pregnant! That's so clever, I had no idea." Not judging them, it's just almost always so embarrassingly obvious to me.

Yeah same with me, between the weight gain and odd framing of scenes I can usually notice right away when an actress is pregnant.

I agree, like it might be a little awkward at times, but unless there was a plan for the character to have a kid in the near future of the show, then all they're doing is digging themselves in a hole by having to add a child to the cast or whatever.

OP - Thank you secret makers!

(Anonymous) 2020-03-06 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you so much for making this into a secret! <3

(Anonymous) 2020-03-06 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not surprised. They're the main straight couple, of course they're going to have a kid.

I'm however really disappointed that Gina got pregnant. Probably just projecting but I thought she was childfree. Nothing about her made it seem like she wanted kids. Especially the way she reacted to Sharon's pregnancy.

I've been binging and just started season 5. Is there a decrease in quality? I've heard season 6 isn't too good. Of course, I'll watch it regardless. The only reason I'd quit the show is if Rosa decides she wants kids too.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-06 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
No sign of Rosa wanting kids!

I hated the Jake/Amy baby drama in that one episode, but if they have a kid and just, idk, take it in turns being offscreen looking after it and we see it as much as Terry's kids, I'd be fine with that.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-06 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not quite related, but I just recently did a rewatch of the show and it drove home just how dumb and unnecessary that one episode was. Jake had talked repeatedly about someday having kids in the past, long before he was even with Amy. The prospect becoming more real might have brought up some fears or concerns, so it would have made sense to much more explicitly play it that way. Playing it as a "have never really wanted them, never talked about it, etc." thing did not.
