JoBeth is the most terrifyingly awesome name-smush yet. :D

Apparently Sparky got its name because the shippers themselves thought that Shweir sounded stupid. Naturally the solution to their problem was to come up with an even stupider name with the added bonus of being incomprehensible for someone not familiar with the backstory (you see, there are sparks flying between John and Elizabeth. All the time! Like when she scolds him and he acts like a sullen five year-old. Or when he pretends to listen to her concerns and then scampers off to do stupid shit with Rodney. SPARKS EVERYWHERE!)

lol, actually, IIRC, they ended up calling it Sparky as a joke. And it ended up sticking. So it was this inside joke because of the all the stupid names people called ships and smushing it together, and then everyone started calling it that. And then people thought that it originated from some kind of serious place of thinking it sounded cool, or cute.

And, I'm not even really in the fandom anymore. I just feel like if you're going to make fun, make fun correctly. Especially if you're making fun of Elizabeth, who I still adore. Because you know, ignoring your bosses concerns is always a sign of competence :D

No prob :D It's where the name for some ship involving Teyla came from too (Ronon/Teyla? I can't remember), off of the Sparky (It's Spanky I think? Seriously, at that point I looked at it and went "they can't be serious", and they weren't, but they also were).

And I do get a bit defencive, but when it comes to Elizabeth, you can probably guess why I do :D [lol, can we guess why I'm not in fandom anymore? I need to re-watch seasons 1-3 again at some point, so I can remember the show that I used to love beyond belief, but I haven't gotten around to it, especially with Sanctuary right now *g*]

Yeah, that would be Spanky. I think Sparky also gave rise to Snarky (McKay/Zelenka), but I don't know if that was a one-time joke or if it actually caught on. It's not my corner of fandom anyway. *shrugs*

I understand. I have to admit that I never really warmed up to Elizabeth, but it was shameful the way TPTB treated Torri. And as for feeling protective of your favourite; I feel the same way about John (I love him lots, in all his fucked up glory), which is why season 5 is hurting me in my soul. :/

Hope you keep on enjoying Sanctuary! As for me, I'll stay with SGA to the [very] bitter end. ;)

I'm guessing that 'sparky' wasn't thought up by a Brit fan - as over here we use 'sparky' as a nickname for the not-so-bright person in the group!
