I don't care so much about them selling merch because I can just skip that part of the video or ignore the ads.

Nicknaming the audience, though? That's super cringy and fake unless it started and became popular within the fandom and then the creator adopted it.

I was wondering about this, because I only follow a handful of youtubers, so I've only seen the latter, where the fans sort of coined the name and the youtuber was like, "Yeah okay that works."

Yeah... it does only work for me when it's kinda amusing. Like Danny Gonzales calling his fandom Greg (yes, singular).
