there's this thing they do with their arms when they talk for a long time that looks really unnatural. I'd be better at showing it to you than trying to describe it verbally.

Oh, you mean how they just hang there all the time unless the characters are gesturing, right? I thought maybe you were talking about how all their arms look so short and stubby

not exactly, I mean that weird pushing back and forth motion with their elbows bent. They only do this while they're talking for a long time and it's a sign of shitty animation (although you're right about their arms just hanging there when they're not doing that and looking too short)
