I mentioned this in the GC thread about reasons for disliking female characters, but the majority of the female characters I dislike are written by men and ones written by women are generally, IMO, better characters. Of course there are exceptions, there are women written by women that I think are badly written, and ones written by men that I like, but overall, it seems to make a difference. Women writers are way more likely to write women characters as more three dimensional, complex and interesting, while male writers are more likely to write them as depthless stereotypes whose sole purpose is to be some guy's love interest.
