It's definitely a huge thing to even think about but I don't think they have any choice. Even if you play games with no fans, the NBA is a physical league. You're going to be in close physical contact with players all game long. And the fact that there's a multiple day period where you're asymtopmatic (as I understand it) means that it's really easy to infect people - realistically Gobert probably has already infected multiple other players and those guys might have infected people too. So there was no other choice as crazy as it seems.

They really don't have a choice, I'm just so shocked I guess. Like they're already limiting how many fans who are allowed to be there at the game, but it seems like they've just canceled everything now. At least wait to find out who's sick from which teams first. Keep them all in quarantine until the numbers on who has been infected and who hasn't can be discovered.
Even with nobody in the audience if there are enough players and coaching staff left unaffected matched with bringing up players from the farm teams they can still play, there's no reason for the season to be cancelled at a drop at a hat when all the facts aren't even in yet...
