IDK. Given the way she's treated at that point in the narrative, it's entirely possible she figures he was the lucky one to escape them?

I didn't say she should care for him, just care about him, even just a little. It isn't a burden to care that someone exists.

Yeah, kids of abusive parents can end up acting any number of ways towards their siblings, from extremely protective to carrying out more abuse themselves. I don't find it weird that they could be siblings (blood or adopted) and also ignore each other completely.

In this era, where family separation was more likely than not for certain classes, this could be self-protection and doesn't make her unlikable imo
