101. Anyone who picks apart the Bond series so much about the misogyny is missing the point about it just being mindless action fun.

110. THIS. It would've been nice having on believer as a friend growing up. It's great that I know some now, but I always wanted a friend like that while I was going through school.

140. I wouldn't know if I would call it the best developed (um, at all), but hells yeah, OTP. I liked the fact that there was both agreement and conflict between them. Because that's how most relationships work.

B-but, I like my mindless action fun, with or without misogyny! Because I'm in it for the things that go explodey-boom, not really for the "character development." Admittedly, I only notice the sexism if there isn't an explosion every fifteen to twenty minutes.

How about you're missing the point about what it meant to be a little girl in the 1960s and 1970s and see girls with guns kicking ass even if they did end up in bed with the lead and some of them died along the way?

How about I'm tired of hearing that some things are "off limits" for criticism beause they are just "for fun?"

...Its not like your NOT allowed to criticize the movie. Go ahead, say how it symbolizes sexism against women in late 60'/early 70's action films. Just don't look down on people that know its bad but still like it because it's fun. Besides, it's just some freaking cheesy movies. Relax.

I don't, and I never did. I pointed out that fun/cheesy and hurtful misogyny are not mutually exclusive.

Of course they're not. But...hurtful to WHO? I personally have the same set of double X's you've got and I found Bond empowering as a kid. If you're going to say "X hurts women" you'd better be prepared to prove it hurts most or all of them, especially if a lot of women happen to like X, and if you pull the self-hatred card a lot of women who know perfectly well that they don't in fact hate themselves will be very amused or annoyed, depending upon their slack level for the day.

I don't find the series misogynist; sometimes I find the character to have sexist ideas, himself, but he's not the whole series. And I'm really tired of political and religious people who only want there to be movies and TV and books that present the world the way THEY want to see it. There is no single perspective out there that is so wonderful and perfect it should be the only one presented in the media.

How about I like it when "feminists" tell me what I should like about as much as I like it when "Christians" do, especially when they not only feel the need to judge me for disagreeing with them but also the need to tell me so?

Seriously? 8/ I usually check the chapter discussion posts and all and I haven't seen any bashing of her. DID I MISS SOMETHING?

I think it was the chapter 13 discussion that made me decide not to even bother joining. Some people really hit hard about how they pretty much hated the pairing/Miyoshi.

I don't think I felt it quite as much as the OP apparently does (I'm sure there would be at least a few people who'd be all, "Hey, we like them, too!" There always is.). But yeah, I can't help but think I'd rather not bother with a comm where people openly state that they hope my OTP breaks up, or how annoying they find one half of it. That sort of commenting doesn't belong on a general comm, and does make it rather uncomfortable for people who happen to like said pairing/character to join.

I definitely agree with that. It's one thing to go all "Okay I wasn't interested in their scenes" or something like that, but there's a difference between that and just mindlessly bashing them. 'Cause yeah, it creates a hostile environment for other fans who DO like it.

And that's too bad, 'cause wtf, Miyoshi is awesome. I ship Takagi/Moritaka like burning (I created the pairing comm, even), but I like the scenes with Moritaka/Azuki and Takagi/Miyoshi D: And I certainly don't hate either of them.

Agreed. I'd love to join later on, if that sort of reaction doesn't continue on. I love talking about the series (and sucking my RL friends into reading it).

I don't really see how it's possible to hate Azuki (with good reason), because the poor thing is barely there, and when she is she hardly speaks!

And Miyoshi is awesome, and hilarious. I nearly died with laughter when she was all, "OK I BEETZ U THAN WE DATE, YES?" It's like Ohba and Obata were initially thinking tsundere, and then decided, "Oh, screw it. Let's just make her a girly girl," but somehow kept the kickass factor. I have the fervent desire to see her beat the crap out of someone who really deserves it down the line. But, maybe that's because I'd like to see how much damage she could really do. That, and it would be EPIC to seen anyone get beaten by such a pretty little thing.
