102. Aria~ I've been meaning to watch the anime but I haven't had a chance yet. (It was directed by one of my favorite directors.)

108. Although I much, much prefer traditional animation, computers are a valuable tool for artists. Without computers, we wouldn't have things like the gorgeous ballroom scene in Beauty and the Beast, or the "deep canvas" painted backgrounds in Tarzan. In fact, a LOT of the movies you show there used computers. I do think there's too great of an emphasis placed on 3D computer animation these days, but 'new' does not automatically equal 'bad'. Remember--Disney was an innovator. Even Snow White used techniques that hadn't been used before.
Also, in terms of artistry, innovation and storytelling, I think many of Pixar's films feel more "classic Disney" than a lot of modern-day Disney films do. Particularly Ratatouille, which changed my belief that a 3D computer animated film couldn't look beautiful. And before you accuse Pixar of being what's killing off traditional animation, John Lasseter, the president of Pixar, is the man that's been bringing traditional animation back to Disney. He himself is a fan of it and doesn't want to see it die.

130. Actually, you sound a little pretentious. I personally don't like f-locking my icons, but people have reasons for it. Plus, what makes you think people even CARE if you and your friends use their icons? Isn't it pretenious of you to assume people would be devistated?

145. Hear, hear. Yes, there are bad dubs. Sure, people can prefer the Japanese more. But automatically assuming that something is "horrible" just because it's in English is just snobby. (Luckily, none of the sub fans I know are like that.)

I think some people just tend to make the assumption that girls liking non-traditionally masculine men makes them less straight.

I know I've personally been accused of being a lesbian several times, because I tend to like pretty guys.

Ugh. I was hoping it wasn't that. That way of thought bugs me--it's like saying girls can't wear pants or be a mechanic without giving up their femininity completely.

Writers and actors -- the good ones anyway -- are making serious attempts to create art. The people pretending to be anime characters on the internet (or elven mages in their basements) aren't doing that. They're just playing make-believe for their own benefit and that of their friends who are playing with them. Which I wouldn't have such a problem with if they didn't take it so seriously and throw fits over it all the time.

I disagree. It's creating and telling a story, so it's just as legit of a way to express yourself as writing and acting. Since when was writing "for your own benefit" a bad thing, anyway? A lot of artists create for their own benefit and just happen to share it with other people, as well. Does that mean they aren't "true" artists?

Yeah, some people take it too seriously, but you find that in ANY hobby. I'm sure there's people out there that get way too upset about their knitted scarves not being perfect. It doesn't mean everyone that has the same hobby is the same way.

Seriously, stop putting people in boxes and learn to get an open mind. It's fandom. We're ALL being a little geeky, and there's a lot of people out there that would think ANYONE that comes here is immature and delusional.

... okay, I guess hanging around commenting on f!s doesn't exactly give me the high ground to insult other people's hobbies.

(Which is not to say that my mind is totally changed and I have seen the light and all that, just... you do have a point there.)

Yeah, not really. XD; I do agree that there's people that take things too far, like I said, but you'd find that in most fandoms and hobbies. (And religion and politics and all sorts of other things.)

I'm not saying you have to like RPing yourself, but it's really just a hobby like anything else.

It just seems to me that an unusually high proportion of RPers have trouble keeping it in perspective, but that could just be me.

It could just be the people you know that RP. Or, well, really, let's be honest--the craziest segment of any group tend to be the loudest. I used to think all yaoi fans were young teen girls waving around yaoi paddles that objectified men to get off with and thought het was ew and rape was love and spoke in Fangirl Japanese and all the other stereotypical stuff, but then I realized that they weren't all like that. It's just that that type of yaoi fangirl tends to be very obnoxious about it.

Short of making icons exclusively for some friends (in which case, why post them to a public icon comm at all), what possible reason could there be for making a batch of icons, posting teasers to a public icon comm, and then locking the post so no one can actually use the icons unless they join your ~special~ icon comm?

If you leave fandom and want to disassociate yourself from the media you made later, maybe. I am referring to the people who post and intentionally go back and make the posts friend's only a day or week later. Why? You make the icons to SHARE. It just completely defeats the point of it.

The reason I've heard from at least one person is that they had asked that people give credit, but people took the icons and then claimed to make them instead. So they made their stuff friends-only because it was much easier to keep track of who was using them. I don't think it's too much to ask for people to put a little note saying "this was made by so and so, not me!" in the "comments" section of the icon.

Like I said, I don't do it, because I'd rather my icons be more accessible, and I haven't had any problems with people not crediting me for my icons, anyway (my fandoms are small), but I can understand why people in bigger fandoms would be concerned about it.

And really, how hard is it to hit the "Join" button to see the icons? You could always leave the community if you decide you'd rather not keep it friended. It just sounds like laziness to complain about it.

I did label it as 'general fandom', but the mods didn't include it. Which is hilarious, true. I was going to mock myself but you got in first ;)

I totally agree that he'd be great...hatspiration or...evilgeniusspiration, but...but...as inspiration for getting thin? To look that think you'd have to be a skeleton!
