Re: Pedophilia and underage sex ARE NOT THE SAME THING.
Who says I'm defending anything? At no point have I said "it's totally OK to have sex with someone of X age." Unless I know what the actual age difference is I have no idea whether I would defend underage sex or not. (BTW "underage sex" can also refer to sex in which both parties are underage.)
However, adult-underage sex runs the gamut from something that's potentially creepy to things that are absolutely skeevy as hell. A 19 year old who has sex with a 17 year old doesn't strike me as creepy at all, unless the 19 year old is treating the 17 year old badly. A 45 year old having sex with a 14 year old is OMG CALL THE COPS DISGUSTING, and should be promptly introduced to a shotgun by the 14 year old's parents, but at the same time, it's not the same thing as sticking a 6 inch penis into a body that's only 3 feet tall and ripping a kid's insides up.
Is this sufficiently clear for you? Legal terms and medical terms, one of these things is not like the other. When I hear "pedophile" I think GET THE SHOTGUN MARTHA. When I think "underage sex" I think "teenagers making out in a car." When I think "statutory rape" I think "someone under 16 or 18 depending on locale, and an adult", and whether or not I have a problem with it depends upon whether the people involved are 2-3 years apart in age or 10-15.
