You probably notice it more in your own writing than in others because you're less willing to suspend your disbelief for what you write on your own. Your betas are biased because they've already suspended their disbelief to allow for smut between the two, which is, yes, a little bit out of character despite the gobs and gobs of romantic/loving subtext.

Basically? Don't worry about it, nobody else will and that's why it's fanfiction.

Yes, I do agree that the OP is having issues with his/her suspension of disbelief. I just don't think that it's because she knows the Real Truth and that her friends are just kidding themselves.

I never said House/Wilson is an OOC pairing. I said the smut is OOC. If you really want to know what I'm trying to say here, ask again and I'll be happy to (try to) tell you, but it has much more to do with shippers in general than with this particular ship.

Assumptions much? I'm not a House/Wilson 'shipper, or a House fan, or even much of a slasher for that matter. However, I have run into people who believe that everyone who 'ships X/Y is delusional and find it very annoying. Sorry if I came across as being aggressive.

Yes, actually, that sounds interesting.

The long and short of it is that I believe that shippers tend to think the development of a romantic relationship is and will always lead to the development of a physical relationships, and vice versa. This isn't true. The two can both develop for most relationships, certainly, but I think there are many ships out there where this would either not happen or it certainly wouldn't happen at the same time. I think House/Wilson are among these ships, due mostly to their complexity. It's believeable to write them as a couple, but to try to jump right into smut with them is always going to feel a little... strange.

Shippers, of course, want the package - they're picking up on the tension and they want to see it resolved. I think that's totally okay and understandable, but at the same time, by resolving that tension you're dissolving something that seems almost integral to the characters and thus placing them slightly OOC.

Um.. Did that make any sense?
