I just don't remember Giles being that bad-ass.

I remember there being hints about him being a tearaway in his youth, but I never remembered how consistantly it was written into his character.

Fairly sure "unf" has nothing to do with being badass - though Giles could if called upon to be. He wasn't called upon enough imo.
