I suspect the characters were all named by someone who subconsciously hates everyone under thirty

The older generation of heroes who mentor them include the ‘90s skateboarder hero Night Thrasher. Stupid hero names have a long and glorious tradition.

Mm, there is that. But this feels more in the vein of, like, magical Native American characters from the 60s who talked about Great White Spirits and ended their sentences with 'how'.

I think it's more How do you do, fellow kids? than outright malice.
