Honestly, I get it.

I had a similar thing with a video game character, back in my non-US country middle school.
Not all black people in the media acted like that, but enough of them did (and enough non-black people didn't) to code a specific dress sense+behaviour as 'Fictional Portrayal of American Black Person' to a person who didn't know many American black people.
