Oooh a lyrebird, I'm jealous! I bet it was beautiful!

Actually it raced across the road like a startled chicken. They have no road sense whatsoever; they just assume the cars will slam on the brakes, which to be fair, they always do. But once you get onto the quieter walking tracks you can see them up close, and they truly are beautiful. I saw one displaying a couple of metres away once - and the songs are just glorious, echoing through the tree-ferns on a cold morning.

I really enjoyed that weekend.
