Part of it is a marketing issue. If you write a book about a teen, no matter how dark and deep it is and how much it really deserves to be in the adult section, it's going to be put in the teen section. Which opens up the issues of what people are willing to publish for teens to reach and blah blah blah.

It's sort of a damned if you do damned if you don't.
